AmCham helps small US firms to tap China market
THE American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai will set up an SME Center in November to facilitate the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in China, AmCham Shanghai said today.
The center will consist of both physical and virtual resources and referral platforms to provide customized services for SMEs which want to expand their manufacturing and trade in China.
American SMEs account for 99.7 percent of all US companies and employ more than half of the country's workforce. Yet only 1 percent of the nation's 28 million small businesses export their goods or services. And among those who do export, only 10 percent export to China, which is America's fastest growing export market, the AmCham Shanghai said.
AmCham Shanghai is hoping to double the number of US exporting SMEs from 1 percent to 2 percent by the end of 2014 and expecting the Chinese market to play a big role to achieve that target.
