American Express teams up with IPS and YeePay
BEGINNING today, American Express card members will be able to shop online at hundreds of Chinese retailers, which will help bring customers from around the world to the nation's merchants, the credit card service provider said in an announcement today.
According to the announcement, American Express cardholders can use the credit card at any online retailer in China that uses IPS or YeePay, the local third-party electronic payment platforms, as their payment service provider.
"Joining forces with both YeePay and IPS provides our card members outside of China with access to goods and services they have not had before," said Tracey Bowra, senior vice president of Global Merchant Services at American Express. "These agreements will also give American Express greater ability to promote merchants within China to our worldwide card member base."
YeePay said the partnership with American Express will allow local online merchants to access high-spending overseas customers, and IPS said it is a positive step to extend China's capability of cross-border payment service, and to promote cross-border e-commerce.
American Express has been working with Bank of China since 1985 to sign merchants to accept its cards.
