Bosch says tool sales to power ahead in China
BOSCH Power Tools, a leading supplier of portable electric power tools, said sales in China is to maintain double-digit growth over the coming years as it expands into the mid-range market.
Sales of the T-edition products, which were launched one year ago in the Chinese market and aimed at mid-price-point users, mainly migrant workers, have exceeded 500,000 units so far.
The mid-price-point market, currently dominated by local brands, is expanding fast, said Tang Kim Kok, regional sales director of Bosch Power Tools China.
"To expand in the mid-range market doesn't mean we are giving up the high-end segment," Tang said in an interview in Shanghai, adding the 500,000 T-edition units sold will only be the tip of the iceberg in China's potentially huge mid-end market.
He declined to reveal the total amount of units sold by the company in China over the past year. Tang said the prices of T-edition tools are typically 30 percent lower than top-end products after some premium features such as anti-vibration, dust extraction, and soft grip were removed.
