Carriers launch 4G Plus in Shanghai
Top mobile carriers kicked off 4G Plus plans in Shanghai, which allow local users to enjoy higher Internet connection speed with lower cost, Shanghai Daily learned during the Shanghai Digital Information Festival today.
China Mobile has offered 4G Plus, which offers 300 megabyte per second bandwidth and double the current 4G bandwidth, in downtown of the city including People’s Square and some regions in Jing’an and Changning districts. The carrier, with more than 5.5 million 4G users in Shanghai, will offer the 4G Plus network covering the whole Inner Ring region by the end of this year, said Shanghai Mobile.
“The rich mobile applications and cloud services have boost demand for advanced networks. Meanwhile, we offered users entry-level 4G packages with more affordable prices starting from 38 yuan (US$6.13),” said Yuan Fang, Shanghai Mobile’s marketing director.
More than 20 brands, including Samsung, Xiaomi and Oppo have kicked off models supporting 4G Plus. The majority of new models kicked off in the second half will support 4G Plus technology.
China Telecom, the third-largest mobile carrier, will test 4G Plus technology starting from next month, with peak bandwidth of 200 and 300 Mbps, compared with 100 Mbps now.
Apple’s iPhone models don’t support 4G Plus technology under China Mobile and China Telecom networks.
But the next-generation of iPhone released in September will support the new technology, China Telecom’s official said in its booth.
Shang Bing, the vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the opening ceremony of the festival open today.
More than 500 exhibitors attend the festival, the first IT theme festival in Shanghai, which is expected to attract 100,000 visitors.
