Cartoon and game expo opens on July 9

The 11th China International Cartoon & Game Expo will be held at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center from July 9 to 13.

The upcoming expo will include displays by many foreign and domestic industry leaders including Disney, Oriental DreamWorks and Tudou.

Popular writers, pop stars and illustrators will also attend and meet fans, though the final list of guests hasn’t been announced. Some of the latest and most popular animations will be screened in cinemas around the city from July 10 to 19.

The announcement may ease the anxiety of fans, as some have been debating the government's recent fierce crack down on animation, comics and games.

Early in the month, the Cultural Ministry issued a black list that included 38 comics and animations with violent and sexually explicit content. The list included "Death Note," "Attack on Titan" and "School Days" and followed its crack down on more than 20 Internet video and comic sites earlier in the year.

The ministry said it will continue to clean the Internet of such content in order to protect the healthy growth of young Chinese.

More than 223,000 visitors attended last year’s expo over five days and attendance is expected to rise this year.
