China to re-examine anti-dumping, countervailing duties on US chicken

CHINA will re-examine anti-dumping and countervailing duties placed on chicken from the United States, the Ministry of Commerce said today.

The ministry said it will investigate the US chicken case again starting today based on Chinese anti-dumping and countervailing duty regulations as well as a World Trade Organization ruling in September.

"We will examine the original evidence and information obtained from the previous investigation, and will assess new conditions through collecting questionnaires and holding hearings," the ministry said in a statement.

The process will be kept transparent as "parties concerned can check the public version of related evidence and information through the ministry" and it will offer opportunities for all to disclose information and express opinions, the ministry said.

A WTO panel in August upheld a US complaint toward Chinese anti-dumping and countervailing duties imposed on US chicken exports as of 2009. The duties add up to 82.1 percent on chicken exports. The WTO adopted the decision in September without receiving an appeal from China.

The US and China have been engaged in a number of trade disputes in the past four years, involving tires, cars, paper and steel.
