China’s first passenger jet receives airworthiness certification

China’s first domestically manufactured regional passenger jet received airworthiness certification today and will begin commercial operations in southwest China in 2015.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China issued the certification in Beijing to the ARJ21-700, a plane hailed as an “advanced regional jet for the 21st century.” The US Federal Aviation Administration said it also recognizes the certification.

Li Jiaxiang, director of the administration, flew on an ARJ21-700 from Beijing to Shanghai.

Two of the jets were delivered to Chengdu Airlines after the final test flights were completed.

The twin-engine plane has accumulated 5,200 hours of safe flying including flights in sub-zero weather, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China announced.
