China's inflation slows to 1.9% in September

CHINA'S consumer prices increased 1.9 percent last month from a year earlier while producer prices eased 3.6 percent year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics said today.

The consumer inflation in September compares with a 2 percent rise in August and is in line with economists' average estimate. Growth in consumer prices has moderated in recent months as costs of food and fuel headed down, paving the way for policymakers to unveil measures to bolster the economy.

The Chinese central government has set a target of 4 percent for the consumer price growth this year. The inflation rate has been below the goal for eight months. Producer prices dropped for the seventh straight month.
