Collaboration in policy-making urged for the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative

CHINA’S “Belt and Road” initiative requires wider collaboration and improved policies in the fields ranging from crime prevention and intervention to regulatory frameworks, academicians and security experts said in a recent forum.
“The success of the Belt and Road initiative is conditional on improving national and international regulatory frameworks and enhancing enforcement capacities,” said Alessandro Arduino, co-director of the Security and Crisis Management Program (SCM) under the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
The forum, convened in Singapore, was organized by the SASS in cooperation with S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) Singapore and the University of Torino (UNITO) Italy.
Participants from China, Pakistan, Italy, Singapore, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, UK and the Czech Republic underlined during the forum the role of the Chinese outbound direct investments, as well as the security and corporate social responsibilities.
Li Yihai, co-director of SCM and one of the organizers of the conference, pointed out that SCM program will continue to make efforts on the creation of a platform for dialogue, cooperation and coordination. Moreover, the conference’s outcome is poised to set national policy standards and guidelines enabling the Belt and Road initiative to provide win-win solutions.
