Surrealism hits city as Dalí arrives at Bund City Hall

SURREALISM has arrived in Shanghai with the opening of “1922 Comienzo: Salvador Dalí × The Bund City Hall” at the Bund City Hall on Fuzhou Road, turning the city’s historic landmark into a fantastical experience that intertwines art, time and architecture.

The exhibition showcases more than 150 iconic works by Salvador Dalí, including sculptures, prints, glassworks and jewelry — many of them shown in China for the first time. It transforms the surrealist master’s limitless imagination within the historic walls of Shanghai’s inaugural municipal building.

The exhibition draws a poetic parallel between Dalí’s artistic awakening and the Bund City Hall’s own debut a century ago. Iconic works such as Dance of Time I and Horse Saddled with Time will appear alongside immersive environments like the special “Red Lips Salon,” bringing Dalí’s world of fantasy into vivid motion.

Public programs, art talks, and youth workshops will further explore how surrealism continues to reshape modern imagination and cultural heritage.
