Company plans expanded gift show in city despite lackluster results last year

THE organizer of the world's biggest gift show announced today that it will hold another fair in Shanghai and will more than double its size even after the attendance of its first show in the city was disappointing.

Business Guide-sha Inc said in July it will host the Gift Show in Shanghai, or the 2014 Japan Lifestyle Goods and Home Accessories Fair.

The planned venue for the independent show is Intex Shanghai, an exhibition center in the Shanghai Hongqiao Economic & Technological Development Zone.

The company is the organizer of the massive Tokyo International Gift Show.

In December 2013, the company organized its first independent exhibition in China’s mainland to display gifts from Japan and China.

But the fair attracted only a few more than 7,000 visitors, far below the expectations.

This year the company plans to extend the fair from three to four days, and will to invite about 200 exhibitors, up from around 70 last year.

"We believe China has a huge demand for gift products as people here spend more than 10 percent of their income purchasing gifts," the company said.

The Gift Show in Shanghai is scheduled to be held in Intex Shanghai from July 24 to July 27.

The company previously had worked with other firms or participated in exhibitions in China.
