SWEDISH hygiene and paper product maker SCA expects the Chinese market for disposable diapers for incontinent people to swell by one fifth annually over the next several years.
The current market size is around 100 million euros (US$143 million), with an annual growth rate of 18 percent, said Stephan Dyckerhoff, president of SCA's hygiene unit in north Asia, which is investing in a new lab.
"This will become a very important market in the future as at the current stage the market is pretty small," Dyckerhoff said yesterday at the launch of the company's global innovation center in Shanghai for hygiene products. SCA will initially invest more than 2 million euros per year in the center, which will develop products suited to the needs of regional consumers.
