East China Fair to hold an exhibition in North America

THE East China Fair, the country's biggest regional trade show, may host an exhibition in North America this year in a trial to directly tap the overseas markets for bolstering exports, according to the Shanghai Commission of Commerce today.

"We hope to explore directly into the markets in North America region, and make a change of the current situation that most visitors of the fair come from nearby countries like Japan, South Korea and India," said Shen Weihua, vice chairman of the commission.

He noted the date of the first foreign trade show under the East China Fair is possibly set in September to leave enough time for preparation, and the specific location has yet to be decided.

The East China Fair, initiated in 1991, has become a branded event in China and a harbinger for the country's trade outlook.
