Energy center starts operation at former World Expo site for office compounds

A hi-tech energy center started operation Monday at the former World Expo 2010 site to supply power to 28 office buildings being new headquarters of some top state-owned companies.

The underground center covering 4,000 square meters at the core area of Zone B, where the 13 state-owned enterprises, including Baosteel and State Grid, have built their headquarters, can save up to 30 percent of the energy consumption comparing with traditional energy supplying methods.

Two central generators at the center can collect the heat produced during electricity generation and supply to the office buildings in winter while transform the heat into cool winds in summer, Li Ding, a senior engineer on the project said.
