Extension eyed
ITALY'S Pirelli, the sole tire supplier to Formula One, aims to extend its contract after a three-year deal ends at the end of this season, saying the company has benefited a lot from the sponsorship.
"We are in the process of negotiations with the FIA," said Paul Hembery, Pirelli's motorsport director, referring to the racing's governing body. "We have the intention to remain in F1."
Gregorio Borgo, Pirelli's chief for Asia, said the racing helps promote its tires in Asia and keep its leadership in the premium segment. Six out of the 19 F1 races are in Asia this year, including the China Grand Prix which ended on Sunday.
But he declined to provide China sales figures for last year, saying they would only be available later this year when the group announces financial results.
