Karl Storz GmbH & Co, the world's leading endoscope manufacturer based in Germany, yesterday held a groundbreaking ceremony for its China headquarters in Pudong's Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park.
Initial investment in the project, the largest foreign-funded endoscope factory in China, exceeds 200 million yuan (US$31.75 million) and factory construction will be completed in 2015.
Endoscopes are widely used in medical diagnosis and minimally invasive surgery.
Zhou Jun, an official from the Ministry of Health, said at the ceremony that innovation is key to the success of China's ongoing medical reform. High-tech medical equipment can reduce clinical risks, set new standards and promote the development of China's medical instrument industry.
