Hamburg reopens Expo pavilion as Shanghai office

THE Hamburg House, which served as the Hamburg Pavilion during Expo 2010 and received more than 500,000 visitors, reopened yesterday as the Hamburg Liaison Office in Shanghai.
Located on Baotun Road in Luwan District, the house will also serve as the Germany-China Sustainable Development Center because the building itself is a fine example of sustainable, energy-saving construction.
The venue is also going to be a place for cultural and social communications between Hamburg and Shanghai organizations. It currently includes a global IT firm, a German language school and the Hamburg House Restaurant.
Wolfgang Schmidt, state secretary of the City of Hamburg, said the re-launch of the Hamburg House signified a closer tie between the two cities.
During his stay in Shanghai, Schmidt and his colleagues signed sister-city cooperation agreements with Shanghai officials, covering a wide range of areas from economy to science, education, culture, tourism, urban planning and environmental protection.
