IBLAC offers stage to tap MNCs鈥 advice
THE IBLAC meeting provides a stage for Shanghai to learn from the experiences of multinationals to help the city build itself into a global innovation hub — contributions that were welcomed by local scholars.
“Shanghai has established a good infrastructure for scientific research to encourage innovation. But we have to have a global vision to develop an influential innovation center,” said Zhu Zhiyuan, chief of the Shanghai branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
“The IBLAC meeting is such a platform. From the advice provided by these multinational companies, we learned the importance of connecting knowledge with production, and the importance of the construction of an ecosystem for innovation.”
Wang Zhen, vice president of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, said multinational corporations have recognized and are willing to support Shanghai’s strategy to turn into an international innovation hub.
Wang applauded recommendations proposed by a number of them including Roche Group, Ernst & Young, Danone and HSBC. He said the MNCs had shared experiences gained from international innovation hubs such as New York and London.
“Global business leaders have put a special emphasis on building an ecosystem for innovation because innovation cannot be achieved within a single stroke,” Wang said. “That urges Shanghai to foster an innovative environment from multiple aspects.”
