International Sourcing Fair opens next Tuesday
The International Sourcing Fair, due to open next Tuesday in Shanghai, expects to be a gauge of the latest demand at both home and abroad, according to the organizers of the fair.
"The global economy, as well as that of China, is full of uncertainties so far this year," said an official surnamed Xie with the Shanghai International Sourcing Promotion Center. "We hope the fair can serve as a gauge of the current market demand, and help suppliers locate the demand or discover new opportunities."
The three-day fair, co-hosted by the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, invited buyers to set up booths and list out what they expect to purchase. Compared with the traditional model of exhibitions where it is usually suppliers that showcase products, next week's fair is more targeted and make it easy for market observers to measure the demand.
China's trade has seen big fluctuations so far this year. According to the General Administration of Customs, China's exports lost 1.6 percent from a year earlier in the first eight months, while imports plummeted 14.6 percent, leading to a trade contraction of 7.7 percent during the period that was far behind the official target of an increase of around 6 percent for this year.
