Kraton to meet China’s non-PVC needs
CHINA is seen as the largest emerging market for the use of non-polyvinyl chloride (non-PVC) materials in the medical sector and this demand is driving chemical materials producer Kraton to grow into this market.
Kraton is building a new plant with a planned annual capacity of 30,000 tons of hydrogenated styrene block copolymer in Taiwan to meet the needs of the mainland market. The plant is set to start production in the fourth quarter of this year.
The firm’s 2015 annual report suggested China accounted for 21 percent of Kraton’s global revenue.
China’s requirement for environmental protection is pushing Kraton to invest in production and research and development in this market. Shanghai is also one of the largest of Kraton’s R&D centers worldwide.
“PVC is the material used for infusion bags in the past decade,” Prakash Kolluri, vice president of Kraton, told Shanghai Daily yesterday. “However governments worldwide are reducing its use as it is not recyclable and produces toxins once burnt.”
