MBS China Graduates Reunion Party Held in Shanghai
MBS China Centre has around 1,000 Global Part-time MBA students since its establishment in 2008, over 220 of them has successfully completed their study and authorised the MBS master degree. They have made tremendous transformation in their career during the MBA learning journey. On 20th September, the first Manchester Global Part-time MBA Graduation Party in China was held to celebrate our graduates’ success, MBS’s 50th Anniversary, and China Centre’s 7th Anniversary all together!
Matthew Knowles, Director, East China, Consul(Culture and Education),British Consulate-General, Elaine Ferneley, Global & MBA Director of MBS, Sherry Fu, MBS China Centre Director, together with around 50 graduate representatives and their families attended this big celebration event. We have also ‘moved’ the well-known Manchester University building to the scene, witness this big moment full of joy and tears.
To kick off the Celebration, Ms. Sherry Fu delivered a speech to the cheerful graduates, to welcome them home again and congratulate them on the success they have achieved in the MBA journey. She also looked back the development history of MBS China Centre in the past 7 years, ‘we would not be where we are today without the students’ hardworking and contribution’, She said, ‘We are walking in this journey together, hand in hand, shoulder by shoulder. We have seen your transformation meanwhile you are also witnessing MBS China Centre’s growth and expansion. I believe that the 3 years with MBS is a turning point in your career and in your life, and we are so proud of every single one of you!”
Mr. Matthew Knowles, new East China Director of British Council was invited to the Graduation Party together with his family. He mentioned on his speech, ‘MBS China Centre plays an important role in the UK-China Year (2015) of Culture Exchange and I’m pleased to see MBS China Centre is bringing the world-class education and is contributing talents to the China market.’ MBS’s success and achievement in China is obvious and all the graduates sitting in the audience is the evidence. Mr. Knowles said he is looking forward to seeing MBS’s continuous growth in China, more and more Chinese people will benefit from this MBA programme and apply what they have learned in their career. The beneficiary of this programme can truly showcase the excellence of UK Education, who is ambassadors of UK and China culture.
Prof. Elaine Ferneley flew from UK to China to join this Graduation Party. She said ‘In MBS, our mission is to give everyone the opportunity to transform their lives and, in doing so, help them transform the organisations they work for and the wider communities in which they live. We are very pleased to see that you have completed this mission. We have seen the transformation in everyone here, and we hope you will continue to apply the “Original Thinking” in your work and life, to bring our core value to your team members, your company and your business partners. We believe MBS’s career service and our worldwide alumni network will continue to benefit you and enhance your career life. Meanwhile, do remember you are also one of this worldwide alumni network and we look forward to your contribution too.”
The MBS China Centre Alumni Start-up Club was officially launched at the party. Mr. Zhang Tao, July 2011 Intake student, Founder of the “Start-up Club” described the mission of this club with the attendees, which is to promote entrepreneurship in MBS, share experiences, discuss real cases and solve problems. Mr. Zhang hopes that this Club will bring out the emerging of new ideas and new entrepreneurs, and will be the beginning of many new businesses.
While Chinese government is encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, this Club will for sure become one of the most active Clubs in MBS.
At the end of the Graduation Party, Ms. Livian Lang, MBS China Centre Student Support Manager announced a series of Awards issued by MBS China Centre. Prof. Elaine Ferneley and Ms. Sherry Fu granted Awards to the winners. Prof. Paul Taaffe and Dr. Alison Ashton both won the Most Popular Academic Awards. Prof. Paul Taaffe, who happened to be in China, teaching Operation Management Workshop, received the award and gave a short speech and his best wishes to the graduates.

Eric Yang, General Manager, January 2012 Intake, Most Helpful Student Award Winner
Eric Yang delivered a spontaneous speech on behalf all Award Winners. It was a short however very touching moment, when he looked back to his MBA study, time he spent together with his classmates and how the live company project before graduation helped his company achieved great success, even it was a difficult time in the market. His speech touched the hearts of the audience; many students had tears in their eyes.
Good time is always short but we always remember those good times and when we think about it, it brings smile to our face. What the students received from MBS is not just business knowledge and practical skills, but also brotherhood, friendship, support and passion for life. They are walking in this journey hand in hand, shoulder by shoulder, not only during their MBA study, but this journey continues after graduation, after this party. They are always part of MBS big family.
