Marriott aims to add one hotel per month in China

MARRIOTT International Inc said it will more than double the number of its hotels in Asia Pacific to meet rising demands in China and India.

The US hotel chain aims to grow the size of its portfolio in Asia to 265 hotels by 2016, with more than 80,000 rooms in 16 countries.

"We see this as a golden age of travel around the world," Simon Cooper, Marriott International's president and managing director for Asia, said today, adding that China and India are the driving forces for its business in Asia.

The company, which operates brands like Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott, has opened 132 hotels in Asia and signed deals for an additional 143 properties. It aims to open one hotel per month in China in the next five years.
