Michelin holds key mobility event in Chengdu
China is playing a pioneering role in the development of innovative mobility solutions and urban well-being, participants said at the 12th Michelin Challenge Bibendum.
The four-day event, which closed today in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, aimed to address the issues of China as a leading transportation industry market, which is created by the emergence of its cities and the rapid urbanization of its people.
The Chengdu event marked the third time for the challenge being held in China, after Shanghai played host back in 2004 and 2007. The selection of Chengdu showed Michelin’s confidence in Western China as the country’s most dynamic region and its plan to better serve the area.
Jean-Dominique Senard, CEO of Michelin Group, said the challenge serves as a platform to gather the latest innovations in the transportation industry for the benefit of sustainable development in both developing and developed countries.
One primary highlight of the Chengdu event was the publication of a green paper devoted to priority sustainable mobility projects. The paper was based on lessons learned from previous events and Michelin’s recommendations presented at the 2014 Chinese Development Forum.
The green paper eyed on five key goals including setting ambitious CO2 reduction objectives worldwide; creating ultra-low emissions zones in cities; deploying door-to-door transport solutions; reinventing last-mile delivery logistics; and promoting public and private investment.
