More buyers, sellers expected at city鈥檚 sourcing fair
MORE evidence of a stabilizing world economy may be found at the upcoming International Sourcing Fair, which will open in Shanghai on Wednesday with more buyers and sellers anticipated than last year.
The fair, a major event organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai government, will take place at ShanghaiMart through Friday. Organizers expect about 20 percent more buyers and more than 30 percent more sellers than last year.
“The global demand has warmed up with economic recoveries around the world,” said Xie Zhen, one of the organizers and former general manager of the Shanghai International Sourcing Promotion Center. “We expect more deals will be signed at the fair this year.”
Different from many other fairs, international buyers set up booths and wait for suppliers to come.
More than 511 international buyers have registered to participate in this year’s fair and over 8,000 suppliers are expected to come, according to organizers.
China’s trade has performed strongly in the past two months. Exports rose 7.2 percent in August after a 5.2-percent gain in July, while imports rose 7 percent last month.
Improvements in overseas markets, particularly in developed economies, are expected to support China’s exports in the coming months, analysts said.
