More than 50% of retail purchases will be made online within 15 years, FedEx says
Within 15 years, online sales will reach over half of all retail sales worldwide, said Raj Subramaniam, executive vice president of FedEx Global Strategy, Marketing and Communications.
B2C e-commerce sales worldwide will reach US$1.471 trillion in 2014, increasing nearly 20 percent over 2013. By 2018, it is forecast that sales worldwide will reach US$2.35 trillion, according to the forum.
Asia Pacific will surpass North America in the e-commerce market next year and take a 37.4 percent share by 2018, according to FedEx.
New information technologies used to streamline logistics and customs procedures could minimize global supply chain barriers and boost worldwide economic activity by almost 5 percent and total trade volume by 15 percent, Subramaniam said.
To tap the e-commerce market, FedEx has launched a global service that allows customers to return products more conveniently.
