Philips’ new move of digitizing

DUTCH electronics giant Philips said it will launch an integrated digital platform of healthcare to enhance synergies between different business units and product categories.

The platform is part of its plans to boost growth in the healthcare and medical industry solutions sector.

"We hope the new digital platform to serve as a bridge that connects both ordinary consumers and professional medical institutions as well as other players in the healthcare industry," Bill Chen, vice president and general manager of Healthcare Informatics, Solutions and Services in Philips China, told an interview during the China International Medical Equipment Fair in Shanghai.

It aims to combine the massive data accumulated through its consumer electronics devices, medical equipment from Philips as well as other vendors to make these medical-level information accessible for all parties involved.

It will focus on sectors including cardiology, oncology, respiratory, as well as fertility, pregnancy and parenting.

Six domestic hospitals have already adopted Philips' integrated services in the cardiovascular disease and Chen said the company hasn't set a target regarding the number of companies or institutions it intends to collaborate with.

By combining the consumer electronics appliances, diagnosis, treatment and home care products from its own company as well as other industry players, it hopes to cut overall medical spending and raise efficiency.

The Dutch electronics giant announced in 2014 it would separating its health care-lifestyle arm from its historic lighting section in a move to streamline operations.

Philips chairman and CEO Frans van Houten said in an interview in December that the majority of its revenue would come from solutions rather than products within 5 or 10 years.
