Pudong unveils new exhibition standards

Pudong New Area today unveiled an industry standard of exhibition services to promote the upgrading of the exhibition industry in the area.

Jointly established by the Commerce Commission of Pudong and the Shanghai New International Expo Centre Co Ltd, the standard covers a set of requirements including those on exhibition venues, services and service providers.

“It’s important for the standard to be maintained as we share the same goal to improve the quality of our services, products and the industry,” said Michael Kruppe, general manager of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre Co Ltd.

Pudong’s exhibition industry has gone through a rapid development in the past few years. In 2014, exhibition area in Pudong totaled 8.1 million square meters, accounting for 63.5 percent of the city total.

“To promote the innovative development of exhibition industry is a crucial part of Pudong’s goal to cultivate high-end service sector,” said Jian Danian, deputy head of the Pudong New Area.

Jian said Shanghai pilot free trade zone has introduced a slew of measures to simplify entry procedures and cut costs for international exhibition participants.

“In the future, more policies will be in place to optimize the spatial layout and expand function of the exhibition industry,” Jian said, “We will also strengthen the linkage between the exhibition industry with tourism, commerce and cultural activities.”
