Roche Diagnostics to build a manufacturing site in Suzhou

Roche Diagnostics has announced to establish a manufacturing site in Suzhou Industrial Park to focus on products for immunochemistry and clinical chemistry tests.
“We are excited to expand our diagnostics value chain in China to include manufacturing,” Roland Diggelmann, Chief Operating Officer of Roche Diagnostics, said in a ceremony held in Suzhou on Wednesday. “Roche is committed to investing in China and the Asia Pacific region. The new manufacturing site will enable us to meet the growing demand for our diagnostic products, ensuring our continuous contribution to the health of people in China and the Asia Pacific region.”
Roche Diagnostics has had a presence in Asia Pacific for 40 years and employs over 4,000 people, across 15 countries in the region. The new site will recruit over 600 employees in the next several years.
The construction of the manufacturing site will take place in 2015 with initial packaging activities expected to start at the end of 2016. By 2018 it will be fully operational for producing reagents, and about 180 different reagents, calibrators and controls for clinical chemistry and immunodiagnostics will be produced.
With the promising expansion of its manufacturing sector, Roche Diagnostics is likely to establish its R&D center in China in the future, according to company officials. Roche Pharmaceuticals, another independent business sector under Roche, established its manufacturing site and R&D center in Shanghai several years earlier.
