Selection process starts for Pudong’s standout business executives for 2013

SHANGHAI’S Pudong New Area yesterday announced the selection process for the Pudong Economic Figures of 2013, meant to recognize entrepreneurs who have made distinguished contributions to the area.
There are 43 nominees from various industries such as shipping and manufacturing, including 13 foreigners.
The candidates will go through an online election at http://www.pudongtv.cn/ to develop a short list, which will then go before a judging panel consisting of local officials, economists and corporate representatives.
The evaluation criteria include value of investment, tax contributions, output value, innovation and social responsibility. Ten will be chose to receive the honor in April.
Zhu Xiaoming, president of China Europe International Business School, who is also the chairman of the panel of judges, said the election will prioritize the role of social responsibility since “a successful entrepreneur contributes not only material wealth but also creates spiritual treasure.”
It’s the second year the selection has been made. The event is sponsored by local governmental agencies and business groups.
