Shanghai firm solicits low-carbon projects for Milan World Expo

Shanghai Zero Carbon System began soliciting low-carbon projects across China to be exhibited in the China Corporate United Pavilion at Milan World Expo 2015.

The company says zero carbon buildings are self-sustaining. They use solar power for energy, collect and purify rainwater for drinking, and use the leftover water to flush toilets and water gardens.

Such buildings are made with recyclable materials and designed in a way to be warm in winter and cool in summer, said Shanghai Zero Carbon System President Chen Shuo.

China has 100 commercial buildings with its environmentally friendly Green Building Label, which includes a rating of one to three stars.

One example is a resort in Tonglu, Hangzhou City, which uses solar power panels to generate electricity and a rainwater recycling system.
