Shanghai stocks tumble almost 3%

Shanghai stocks sank almost three percent Thursday, the third straight loss despite another huge injection of Chinese central bank cash into the financial system, as investors fret over the state of the economy.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 2.92 percent, or 79.90 points, to 2,655.66. It has now lost about 10 percent since closing on Monday.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, tumbled 4.18 percent, or 71.08 points, to 1,629.07.

However, the Hang Seng Index rose 0.75 percent, or 143.38 points, to close at 19,195.83.
