Tencent doubles third-party fund to create largest open platform

CHINA'S biggest Internet company Tencent said it plans to double the size of its Tencent Collaboration Fund to 10 billion yuan (US$1.54 billion) to support third-party service operators and application developers.

"Our target is to become the largest and biggest open platform," Ma Huateng, chairman and chief executive officer of Tencent, said in Beijing yesterday.

Tencent, which operates China's most popular online chatting tool, QQ, is seeking to expand its service and introduce more users to its platform with the help of partners.

Ma said the company hopes to award its collaborators 20 billion yuan in commission, which equals its annual revenue, to provide users more services, such as social games, online music widgets and document sharing services.

Currently, more than 9,200 websites in China uses the Tencent system that allows users to log on with a Tencent account and password to connect with their own services and share contents with QQ friends.

Tencent will open eight divisions to collaborators to exhibit their products to more than 600 million QQ users, including instant messaging tool QQ, social network site Tencent Pengyou and QQ Zone, Tencent microblog, online payment arm Tenpay and others.
