Transaction volume rises 73% at B2C sites
TRANSACTION volume at China's business to consumer shopping sites in the first quarter grew 73 percent from a year ago to 81.9 billion yuan (US$13 billion), an industry report said.
The market size added only 7.6 percent from the October-December period, down from a more than 20 percent average quarterly rise in previous quarters as a growing number of shopping sites ended sales promotions, Beijing-based Internet research house Analysys International said in a report today.
The first three months of the year is usually the low season for online shopping sites as most sales promotions wrap up at the end of the year.
Cash-tight online vendors have been cutting marketing expenditures and halted large-scale promotions during the past few months, and the overall market remains rather weak, the report said.
