US$2b Chinese orders for jet engines

GENERAL Electric Co has said it has secured orders for its fastest-selling engine worth US$2 billion from Chinese airlines, as it seeks to ramp up production.

China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Air China, as well as Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific have ordered 100 GEnx engines, said GE.

The list price of US$2 billion excludes spares.

GE, the world's largest aircraft engine maker, competes with Rolls-Royce and United Technologies Corp's Pratt & Whitney.
