Auto sales speed up
Despite the sweltering summer, traditionally China’s low season for car shopping, the passenger car market maintained its double-digit growth as the countdown to the high season of autumn began, the China Passenger Car Association said yesterday.
After a 14.9 percent year-on-year increase in July, deliveries of sedans, sport-utility vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles and minivans rose 13.3 percent last month from a year earlier. The sales were 10.4 percent up on a monthly basis, compared with a 7.6 percent drop in July. “A market expansion of around 12 percent will be seen in September, which will lay the foundation for deliveries of 21.5 million units in China this year,” said Rao Da, secretary-general of the association.
