BMW to recall 2,712 cars in China to replace faulty steering gear

NEARLY 3,000 BMWs in China will be recalled due to a steering gear defect, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The administration received a report yesterday from BMW China Automotive Trading and BMW Brilliance Automotive, a joint venture between BMW and its Chinese partner Brilliance Auto, saying they will recall 2,907 locally-made and imported BMW 3, X1 and Z4 cars.

A total of 2,712 BMW 3 cars are on the recall list. They were mostly produced between November 2010 and February 2012 in China. Also on the list are 114 BMW X1 cars made in China between February and March of 2012 and 32 imported BMW Z4 cars made between last November and December.

The recall will start on August 15 to replace the old steering gear that has the risk of crippling the car's electrical power steering system during driving.
