Buick launches star-studded line-up in Shanghai
BUICK, maker of China’s fastest growing mainstream, upper-middle class passenger cars, unveils its latest models at the Auto Shanghai 2015 to address the diverse demands of customers in China’s mid-range passenger car segment.
Buick is exhibiting 16 different car models at the show, including some never before displayed in China. Buick has teamed up with Dutch artist Paul Veroude to create a magical exhibition in which each part of Buick’s Regal GS car is suspended from above, creating a living technical diagram.
Buick has also set up a corner at the show for its Design Studio, where visitors can experience firsthand the process of making a car. The Shanghai Theatre also provided its 3D expertise for Buick’s driving safety movie.
The Buick booth features the brand’s latest portfolio, reflecting the tastes and trends of the Chinese motoring public.
The Verano, Buick’s new-generation sports sedan, is called Wei Lang in Chinese. The car offers a refreshing driving experience through its stylish and dynamic exterior, exquisite and comfortable interior, and precise and powerful performance.
The Verano was inspired by the 2013 Buick Riviera concept car and captures the design essence of the Buick Avenir concept car, which debuted at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Verano underscores Buick’s insight into the aesthetic preferences of Chinese consumers. It embodies the innovative re-imagining of Buick’s classic design elements, exemplifying the elegance and dynamism of Buick’s new-generation products. It is expected to set a new benchmark for performance, safety and comfort in its class.
Like the all-new Excelle GT, launched earlier this year, the Verano will serve as a strategic player in Buick’s bid for a stronger presence in China’s mid-range vehicle segment.
The Avenir is also making its China debut on the Auto Shanghai 2015. The Avenir is a flagship sedan with progressive design encompassing new levels of passenger comfort and safety and the latest in technology integration.
The Avenir — French for “future” — is distinguished by its premium sports proportions and all-new interpretations of traditional Buick cues.
It is the creation of a global team of Buick designers and sculptors who are inspired by historic Buick concepts that pushed traditional boundaries, shaped future models and influenced an entire auto industry.
The Avenir’s sculptural surfacing, expressive proportions and signature sweep-spear bodyside visually cue to an exceptional driving experience awaiting a motorist inside.
The Buick Envision 20T, the newest member of its Envision mainstream SUV line-up, is also on show at Auto Shanghai.
The Envision 20T is powered by a 1.5T Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) engine that is matched with an intelligent seven-speed DCG transmission. Like its sibling, the Envision 28T, it is available with front-wheel drive and intelligent all-wheel drive.
The 1.5T SIDI turbocharged engine is the most powerful among General Motors’ latest-generation Ecotec small-displacement engines.
It features mid-mounted direct injection, an integrated exhaust manifold and QuietTuning technology. The start-stop function, which comes as a standard features, helps save fuel and reduce emissions. The engine generates maximum power of 124KW and peak torque of 250Nm.
The intelligent seven-speed DCG transmission is another achievement in General Motors’ small-displacement power train development. The transmission has an innovative design and more than 50 patented technologies. Specially optimized, based on the requirements of Chinese consumers, the transmission offers smooth and responsive gear shifting, while contributing to the Envision 20T’s superb comfort and quiet interior.
The Envision 20T front-wheel drive variant boasts segment-leading fuel economy of 6.6L/100km. It meets China’s advanced National V emission standard. Since its launch in October, it has had monthly sales of more than 10,000 units — making it a leader in the mainstream SUV segment.
