Citroen expects sales boost with unveiling of new model

FRANCE-BASED carmaker Citroen expects to more than double the sales of imported cars in China this year with the introduction of a new model.
The company expects to sell more than 2,000 imported cars here from about 1,000 in 2011, when it only offered one model, said Johan Ily, general manager of Citroen's China imported vehicles business, in an interview at the 2012 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition.
He said the target will be made with the introduction to China of the C4 Aircross, a compact SUV that is basically Citroen's equivalent of the Mitsubishi ASX. The C4 Aircross was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
European carmakers are seeking growth in emerging markets like China by launching new models at a time sales fall in their crisis-hit hometown markets.
Citroen is a unit of PSA Peugeot Citroen, Europe's second largest automaker after Germany-based Volkswagen. PSA has been replacing aging cars like the Peugeot 207 and shifted its focus to up-market models such as the C4 Aircross.
