City extends subsidies for clean vehicles
SHANGHAI will extend its subsidies for car owners replacing high-polluting vehicles until December to further promote fuel-efficient and greener cars, according to Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce today.
Until December 31, environmentally minded Shanghai motorists will continue to enjoy subsidies ranging from 3,000 yuan to 7,500 yuan if they trade in outdated vehicles.
These include mini vans, light commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks that fail to meet the nation's first generation of emission standards. Consumers should file their application before the deadline of January 31 next year.
Shanghai announced subsidies to promote vehicles that burn less fuel and emit fewer pollutants from June 1 last year to April 30 this year. It is part of a nationwide campaign by the central government to spur vehicle demand and maintain healthy economic growth.
During the period, more than 14,000 applications have been received in Shanghai. With total government subsidies of around 90 million yuan, the policy successfully spurred vehicle consumption valued at 2.3 billion yuan.
The Commission of Commerce said the policy worked effectively in raising awareness of environmental protection among consumers and enhancing energy efficiency.
