Dealers’ drive helps passenger car sales
CHINA’S passenger car sales have grown more quickly in October for the first time since June as auto dealers drove to meet annual sales target by offering incentives.
The deliveries of sedans, sport-utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles rose 9.3 percent last month from a year earlier to 1.66 million units. The growth was faster than the 8.7 percent gain in September.
As the first month of the last sales quarter of the year, October traditionally witnesses sales extravaganza when car dealers go all out to chase their annual sales target.
Rao Da, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association, expects this month to keep the strong growth pace as middle-class consumers eye possible car purchases to reward themselves for a year of hard work. Rao said the passenger car market is on track and in line with developments made by China’s economy.
