Dongfeng Auto's electric future
DONGFENG Automobile Co will invest between 400 million yuan (US$59 million) and 500 million yuan to launch five models of pure electric vehicles in the next three years, a top company official said.
The launch is part of the car maker's 3 billion yuan plan to speed up the commercialization of new energy cars in the next five years.
The auto maker will seek more partners to conduct trial runs of pure electric vehicles, said Lu Feng, general manager of Hubei-based Dongfeng Auto.
"Electric vehicles have a huge potential in short-distance city transport and special-purpose transport and we're studying the commercialization of the new models," Lu said.
International express company TNT yesterday unveiled the first pure electric vehicle fleet in cooperation with Dongfeng Auto. The fleet, comprising five pure electric cars, is now fully operational in Shanghai.
Dongfeng Auto aims to sell 800,000 new energy cars annually by 2020.
