Dongfeng Motor gets new chairman
CHINA’S state-owned carmaker Dongfeng Motor Corp named a new chairman yesterday, while it dismissed speculation about its merger with carmaking giant FAW.
Zhu Yanfeng, former FAW general manager and now deputy Party secretary of Jilin Province, where FAW is based, will replace Xu Ping as chairman of Hubei Province-based Dongfeng. The appointment was made by the State Council, China’s Cabinet.
Xu, who has been with Dongfeng since the early 1980s, is expected to take over the helm at FAW after its Chairman and Party Secretary Xu Jianyi resigned in April when he was put under investigation for serious violation of Party discipline and the law. This appointment is due to be announced tomorrow.
Both FAW and Dongfeng have been ensnared in the central government’s sweeping crackdown on corruption.
A vice president of FAW’s sales joint venture with Volkswagen got a life sentence for taking bribes from the company’s advertising agencies and dealers. Two senior executives of Dongfeng’s Nissan joint venture are under anti-graft investigation.
