Electric cars steal show at industry fair
A showcase of new energy vehicles has attracted the most attention at the China Industry Fair 2011 that started on Tuesday.
Ordinary consumers expect to see models with various fuel-efficient green technologies to help them cut down on travel costs in the future, while automakers aim to further exploit market potential through the increasing popularity of new energy cars.
The fair attracted the nation's mainstream auto companies to showcase their latest energy-saving technologies on complete cars, spare parts as well as charging facilities.
The central government has declared the electric vehicle industry a top priority and may inject US$1.5 billion a year for the next 10 years to help transform the country into one of the leading producers of clean vehicles.
Compared to the high enthusiasm of automakers, the promotion of the new energy vehicles still suffer some difficulties such as lacking unified standards on charging facilities, higher purchase prices and issues around technology safety.
SAIC Motor Corp, the nation's largest auto group, yesterday presented five new energy vehicles including hybrids, pure electric vehicles, fuel cell cars and electric buses as it aims to push the commercialization of green models into a higher gear.
