Electric taxis

A taxi fleet of 30 electric cars provided by China's battery and electric car producer BYD Automobile Co started rolling on the roads of Shenzhen on Monday - a first in the nation.

The Chinese car maker, which is backed by billionaire Warren Buffett, said by the end of June a total of 100 of its E6 pure electric cars will be on the roads to collect feedback before expanding the adoption.

The Fe lithium iron battery-powered E6 EV has a range of 300 kilometers and costs one-third of a gasoline-powered vehicle.

BYD has also set up its United States headquarters in Los Angeles County, California, where the E6 will go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
