Fall in Japanese deliveries dents monthly auto sales
THE decline in Japanese car deliveries in China in September has caused a dent in the country's monthly vehicle sales for the first time since January, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said yesterday.
The sales of passenger cars and commercial vehicles in China dropped 1.8 percent from a year earlier to 1.62 million units last month - a sharp tumble from the 8.3 percent increase in August.
The association said the severe battering in Japanese auto sales in China due to the anti-Japanese sentiment amid islands row between the two nations hit September's figure.
Amid widespread calls for a boycott of Japanese goods, the Japanese auto brands saw a nearly 40 percent annual plunge in their September passenger car sales. The sales fell 30 percent from August's.
The combined auto sales in the country this year hit 14.1 million units by last month, but the accumulative growth eased to 3.4 percent after seven months of acceleration.
