Ferrari's 1st four-wheel drive four-seater makes Asia debut

THE Shanghai international auto show yesterday hosted the Asia-Pacific premiere of the revolutionary FF, a four-wheel drive four-seater with a mid-front V12 that is the most powerful and versatile car Ferrari has yet built.

Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa and Ferrari President of Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan Edwin Fenech attended the presentation.

Far from being a mere evolutionary version of Ferrari's previous V12 GT models, the FF represents a revolution that opens up a new chapter in the prancing horse's history.

FF is full of innovation. Efficiency has been significantly boosted too, with fuel consumption now standing at just 15.4 liters per 100 kilometers, and CO2 emissions at 360 grams per kilometer, a 25 percent reduction compared with the previous V12s. This is thanks in part to the HELE (High Emotions - Low Emissions) System that incorporates Stop & Start technology.

Exceptional sporty driving is guaranteed by the FF's transaxle architecture (mid-front engine with gearbox over the rear axle) and the positioning of 53 percent of weight to the rear of the car.

Meticulous attention has been taken in lightening the engine, bodyshell and a host of other components.

The interior has also been optimized through the use of high-tech materials such as magnesium for the seats.

Third-generation Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes are now lighter and longer-lasting, with virtually negligible wear during normal use on the road. All of these innovations have combined to produce an absolutely exceptional weight-power ratio of 2.7kg/CV, a new benchmark for this kind of car.

FF can comfortably accommodate four in its body-hugging seats and spacious cabin.

Its 450-liter luggage space can also be expanded to 800 liters as the rear seats fold down independently.

This means that the FF offers more carrying space than any other car in its category - and more than many four-door saloons, too.

Everything aboard the FF is tailored specifically to the needs and tastes of its driver.

At the show, Ferrari also exhibits its innovative 8-cylinder 458 Italia, the 599 GTB Fiorano with the sporting HGTE package, and its V8 convertible Ferrari California.
