Ferrari's sales skyrocket 116%
FERRARI SpA saw a sharp jump of 116 percent in sales in the first half of this year in China, which powered ahead to become the second-biggest market for the iconic Italian sports car maker.
It sold 378 units on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong from January to June, a surge of 116 percent from the same period of last year, it said in a statement yesterday. This robust sales propelled China to replace Germany as the car maker's second-biggest market after the United States where 939 units were sold.
Ferrari boosted global sales by 11.8 percent year on year to a record 3,577 units during the first half, the statement said. Revenue jumped 19.6 percent to 1.08 billion euros (US$1.5 billion).
Luca di Montezemolo, chairman of Ferrari, attributed the car maker's buoyant sales worldwide to an expanded presence in new markets and the launch of inspiring new models. He estimated the momentum would continue in the second half as it has started delivering its first four-seat four-wheel-drive sports sedan, Ferrari FF.
