Honda eyes normal output

HONDA Motor Corp yesterday said it will resume normal production level in China in August after parts delivery, that was disrupted by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, improves.

The Japanese auto maker said in a statement that production in China is getting back on track and forecast that total output at its two Chinese ventures, Guangzhou Honda and Dongfeng Honda, will return to or exceed normal level in August.

Due to parts delivery problems, Toyota, Honda and Nissan have reduced capacity in China since April.

On May 11, Toyota announced that improved parts supply would enable its production in China to return to normal after June 10, earlier than the previous projected timeline for August.

Honda said the production cut was a short-term measure. It will continue to double the output at its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co to 240,000 units by the second half of this year, its statement added.

In the second half of next year, it will produce another 100,000 vehicles per year in China when the second plant of Dongfeng Honda starts operation.
