Hyundai recalls US Sonatas
HYUNDAI Motor, South Korea's top auto maker, will recall some 139,500 Sonata sedans sold in the United States, due to steering issues that could cause a loss or reduction of steering control, the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said yesterday.
A Hyundai spokesperson confirmed the recall.
The vehicles were built from December through September 10, according to the NHTSA report.
In February, Hyundai recalled 47,000 of its 2011 Sonata sedans in South Korea and US because of potential faults in the front door locks.
Hyundai has recently been one of the stronger performers in the US auto sector, gaining market share and logging an 8.3 percent sales rise in 2009, while the industry fell 21 percent overall to the lowest levels since the early 1980s.
