Japanese auto sales surge in October
Sales of major Japanese carmakers Nissan, Honda and Mazda rose strongly year on year in China last month, recovering from the sharp drop in deliveries which were dented by last year’s consumer boycott of Japanese brands.
Nissan, whose sales exposure to China is the biggest of the Japanese carmakers, saw sales soar 128 percent year on year to 114,700 units in China. Honda increased its deliveries 211.6 percent to 75,150 units, and Mazda sold 17,904 units, up 88 percent from a year earlier. Toyota had reported an 80 percent sales increase.
During the same month of last year, their sales in China plunged amid the anti-Japanese boycott over the Diaoyu Islands dispute.
The Japanese carmakers are hoping the Guangzhou Motor Show, held from November 21-30, will drive sales to meet their annual target as south China is their strongest market.
